Kenton Picks Up Win Over LCC in Boys Tennis Match

Kenton High School Boys Varsity Tennis beat Lima Central Catholic 3-2

The tennis team won their first match of the season with a 3-2 win over LCC at the Mary-Lou Johnson Courts.

Getting wins for Kenton were Hayden Robinson and Landon Rush at 1st Doubles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Colin Guagenti/Drew Hubbard. At 2nd singles, Taj Chahal evened his season record (2-2) with a win over Brady Koening 6-0, 6-1.

The match came down to 3rd singles as Rocco Longbrake over came a 4-6 loss in the 1st set, came from behind in set two (6-4) to force a 3rd set and pulled away for the win over Jake Evans (6-3). Cameron ZIckafoose started off well at 1st singles but lost 5-7, 1-6, to Aaron Simmons. At 2nd doubles, Ian Lyons dropped a 3-6, 1-6 decision to Michael Seffernick/Zach Burris.

“It was great to get our first win of the season, Hayden, Landon and Taj maintained a solid lead throughout their sets and never let up. Rocco was playing with an illness and overcame an injury and muscle cramps to come from behind and get his first win of his career. Cameron, Ian, and Riley played very well and are still working on consistency and staying focused mentally,” said Coach Rick Collins.
