Terri Holloway and Andy Diller

Kenton Rotary heard from Terri Holloway, parent and former board member for the Hardin County Board of Developmental Disabilities (HCBDD) and Andy Diller, SSA Director with HCBDD.

“SSA” stands for Service and Support Administration, which is similar to case management.

Mr. Diller reminded everyone that March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Andy spoke about how most people in Hardin County are familiar with Simon Kenton School and preschool, and that makes up about 25% of what HCBDD does. Another 25% is for Early Intervention which works with children birth to age 3, and almost half is working with adults in his department. The services for adults are as varied as the individual. Some people need 24/ 7 care of basic needs. Some people need transportation to and from appointments. HCBDD arranges, funds and monitors the services that providers do that help these individuals. HCBDD strives to fill any need their clients have.

In and around Hardin County adult dients have many options for day services, HARCO, Kan Du, You Care, NOP, New Vision are all different providers with different activities. Andy also spoke that levies on the ballot are need to supply much needed support funds for our local population. Every dollar that is raised with a levy is matched with $2.50 from Medicaid. That is more than double the dollars to spend on local people.

In closing Terri Holloway shared her experiences with HCBDD as a board member and as a parent of a son who receives services. Terri ended her talk stating the Hardin County Board of DD always wants what is best for the kids and adults.
