The Kenton City Schools Board of Education met Monday evening.
Treasurer Jill Smith informed the Board that the district is in black, but the bottom line numbers will change once negotiations with teachers conclude, ”That will change once ratification takes place with the teacher’s contracts, which I think that’s May 22, and then we’ll have to pass on our end at the June meeting. Then we’ve got OAPSE (Ohio Association of Public School Employees) negotiations coming up in early June, so once those are all ratified and good to go, that’ll change the outcome of the bottom line and whether or not we’re deficit spending in certain years.”
Superintendent Chad Thrush highlighted the retirement of Amy Long after 39 years with Kenton City Schools.
He said her career has impacted students across the district, “Three years at Kenton High School Special Ed, and then went from there to Espy for eleven years Special Ed and Fourth Grade, and then from there to Hardin Central thirteen years Fourth and Fifth Grades and then finishing up twelve years at Kenton Middle School as a Science Teacher, so it’s been throughout the district.”
Board members also enjoyed a presentation from Kenton High School Art Class students Kailie Conley, Anna Coon, Hannah Fox and Jenna White.
A lengthy list of end of school year personnel matters was also approved before the meeting was adjourned.
The next regular meeting will be held on June 19.
