Kenton City Schools Superintendent Chad Thrush assured parents of the district that a bomb threat email is a hoax.

The Superintendent notified residents that a building principal received an email along with at least 40 other districts in Ohio containing a bomb threat.

The threats are similar in content and language to threats that occurred in recent days in California and Texas.

The Ohio Homeland Security Statewide Terrorism Analysis and Crime Center believe the threats to be a case of a swatting hoax.

The Kenton Police Department and Hardin County Sheriff’s Office concurred with those findings.

Law enforcement agencies and school resource officers remain vigilant today.

Superintendent Thrush released this statement:

“Kenton City Schools Absences are higher than average today, but not drastically as we’ve entered the flu and cold time of the year. With that said, we would encourage parents to have age-appropriate conversations with their kids regarding the seriousness of making false reports of a crime. Those actions can result in criminal consequences that have a life-long impact. Safety remains our #1 priority.”
