Law enforcement agencies are reminding residents about the differences in the Snow Emergency Levels in Ohio.
The Ohio Department of Transportation does not issue snow emergency levels. They are released by your local sheriff’s office, which holds jurisdiction over issuing snow emergency levels.
A Level one snow alert is issued when roads are hazardous with blowing snow, and they may be icy. Motorists are urged to drive very cautiously, and unnecessary travel is discouraged.
A Level Two Snow Advisory is when roads are hazardous and may be very icy. You should only drive if it is necessary. Employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work.
A Level Three Snow Emergency is issued for extremely hazardous road conditions. All or certain county roads are closed, and no one should be on the roads unless it is absolutely necessary. Employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work.
The snow levels are issued by the sheriff in each county.
