Lima Woman Killed in Three Vehicle Crash in Lima Wednesday

A Lima woman was killed in a two vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday at the intersection of Sunderland Road and Spencerville Road in Lima.

According to a release from the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 20 year old Felicia Higginbotham was driving north on Sunderland and failed to stop for a stop sign at Spencerville Road.

Her car struck a westbound semi being operated by 34 year old Nicholas Myers, of Grover Hill, Ohio.

After the impact with the semi, her car was struck by an eastbound vehicle being operated by 60 year old Jeffrey Hunt, of Lima.

Higginbotham was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hunt was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, and Myers was treated at the scene.

Spencerville – The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating and three vehicle fatal traffic crash. The traffic crash occurred today, April 17, 2024 at approximately 9:30 AM.

A 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt operated by Felica M. Higginbotham, age 20, from Lima, Ohio was northbound on Sunderland Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at Spencerville Road. Her vehicle entered the intersection and struck a westbound 1996 Kenworth semi operated by Nicholas J. Myers, age 34, of Grover Hill, Ohio.

After impact with the semi, Miss Higginbotham’s vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Jeffrey D. Hunt, 60 years old, of Lima, Ohio. The Cobalt and Grand Cherokee exited the south side of the roadway where they came to a rest. The Kenworth semi remained on the roadway coming to a controlled stop west of the intersection.

Felica M. Higginbotham suffered fatal injuries as a result of the traffic crash. Nicholas J. Myers was treated at the scene by Spencerville EMS and Jeffrey D. Hunt was transported by Spencerville EMS to Mercy- St. Rita’s Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by Spencerville Police Department, American Township Police Department, Spencerville Fire and EMS, Allen County Coroner’s Office, Allen County EMA, ODOT, Amanda Township Road Maintenance, Able Towing, Knippin’s Towing and Beaverdam Fleet Towing.

The Ohio Highway Patrol reminds drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelt and to never drive distracted. The crash remains under investigation and alcohol and drug use is not believed to be a factor.
