A local resident will be the special guest of 83rd state representative Jon Cross during Gov. Mike DeWine’s first State of the State Address tonight.

Sherri Haushalter Sopher will take in the speech at the statehouse, and is looking forward to the experience, “I’m happy to be here to serve as a representative of the 83rd District and get to hear the Governor’s speech firsthand, and I look forward to seeing how we can use what he has to say to help Ohioans in the 83rd District grow and prosper, because that’s what we want to do, grow and prosper and make things better for our kids to stay there.”

Cross stated he’s looking forward to working with the governor once the plans are outlined, “We’re very much looking forward to the Governor outlining his plan and how we can then work with him to implement the plan for the short term and long term growth and prosperity of the 83rd District as we continue to champion and fight for good things in Northwest Ohio.”

One of the issues that is sure to be mentioned tonight is Gov. DeWine’s proposed 18 cents a gallon gasoline tax to help offset a billion dollar deficit in the Ohio Department of Transportation budget, which he said will be talked about in the statehouse starting today, “The goal of the gas tax is to caucus with our committee colleagues today, and possibly vote out a plan tomorrow (Wednesday) and then Thursday once we vote it out of committee, we’ll take to the House floor.”
