(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Lt. Governor Jon Husted, who serves as Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, announced today that awards are being distributed following the January TechCred application period.

“TechCred continues to grow in popularity among Ohio employers and has proven to secure new private investment among our businesses in their own workforces,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “We hope that employers who haven’t yet gotten connected will visit TechCred.Ohio.gov and get ready for the new application period on March 2nd.”

Applications were approved for 255 Ohio employers, resulting in 1,611 credentials that will help upskill Ohio workers. During this application period, employer contribution almost doubled compared to the October application period, meaning more employers are investing in their workers in addition to the funding they receive through TechCred.

“TechCred is helping Ohio businesses upskill their workforce,” said Development Services Agency (DSA) Director Lydia Mihalik. “These credentials are also helping workers advance their careers.”

Following the first two rounds of TechCred, a total of 444 Ohio employers have been approved for reimbursement, resulting in the opportunity for 3,187 technology-focused credentials to be earned by Ohio employees.

“Giving thousands of Ohio employees the opportunity to enhance their skills and earn credentials through the TechCred program allows our state and our workforce to stay on top of ever-changing technology, and helps our businesses to thrive,” said Department of Higher Education Chancellor Randy Gardner.

TechCred fulfills a commitment made by Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted to fund the completion of 10,000 micro credentials each year in order to aid in closing the skills gap for growing technology jobs.
Applications were approved for 234 employers in the October funding round, which will result in up to 1,576 credentials that will upskill Ohio workers.

he next application period for TechCred opens March 2nd. More information on TechCred can be found at TechCred.Ohio.Gov.
