The American Red Cross celebrates March as Red Cross Month.

The annual celebration is a national tradition that started nearly 80 years ago when President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first national Red Cross Month proclamation.

The purpose is to recognize those who give back through the American Red Cross.

The month is also used to urge everyone to make a financial donation that will be used to provide assistance to people affected by disasters

Another way to help is to schedule a blood donation appointment.

There are two blood drives scheduled in Kenton this month.

The first will be from noon until six on Monday March 21 at the Kenton Moose Lodge.

Another will take place from noon until 6 on Monday March 28 at the First Baptist Church.
