Marcile A. (Geary) McBride

Marcile A. (Geary) McBride of Forest, OH passed away from this life to the loving arms of Jesus at 6:10AM, Sat. June 27, 2020 with her family by her side at her home. She was 91.

She was born September 29, 1928, in Wyandot County. Marcile was the eldest child of the late Glen and Evelyn A. (Riedel) Geary. She was raised in a loving home with strong Christian values and was taught good work ethics. She and C. L. McBride met at a skating rink in Tiffin, OH while skating with their church youth group. A year later, she and “Mick” were married on October 28, 1946, in Covington, KY. They have celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Marcile is survived by her husband C. L. “Mick” McBride of rural Forest, OH and children Rand de (Peggy) McBride, Findlay, OH; Steven L. (Sheila) McBride, Broken Arrow, OK; Jody K.(Gary) Shields, rural Forest, OH; and Rodney L. McBride, rural Forest, OH and 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Chester Geary, Akron, OH and Jed (Marcia) Geary, Upper Sandusky, OH, and 2 sisters, Jocelyn Risley, Sycamore, OH and Patsy (Shawn) Barron, Tiffin, OH. She was preceded in death by her sister Twila J. Walton, brothers-in-law Clarence Walton and Kenneth Risley, sister-in-law Judy Geary, and daughter-in-law Linda L. McBride.

Marcile grew up in a family that loved music. When together, the family often enjoyed gathering around the piano to sing. Marcile started singing with her sister Twila at an early age. Their mother would curl their hair and dress them like Shirley Temple. In July of 1936, Sycamore’s 1st amateur hour was held. Five entries appeared with first prize being awarded to Marcile (age 8) and Twila (age 6), who were accompanied by their mother on guitar.

Marcile always loved being outdoors as a child. She graduated Valedictorian of her high school class. She was a Cub Scout den mother for several years. She served as a room mother throughout her children’s school careers. Marcile was a beautiful seamstress. She made many of her sons’ shirts and most of Jody’s clothes when they were small. She had a real eye for color and decorating. She and her family enjoyed many years vacationing at Lake Erie and then at a place at Bay Point on the Marblehead Peninsula. There was lots of skiing, boating, fishing, barbecuing, and fun with family and friends. She served with the Bill Glass prison ministry. She was a member of Blanchard River Church of Christ, Dunkirk, OH. She served on the remodeling committees and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society at the church. But most of all, she loved being a mother and grandmother. Swimming in the pond and pool, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows around the fire, Marcile enjoyed spending time with her family.

Marcile was co-owner, alongside her husband, of McBride Furniture Company in Forest, OH. She and Mick started the store in 1947 in Dunkirk, OH and then moved it to Forest, OH. They also had a store in Sycamore, OH where she was born and raised.

After retiring, Marcile loved working outdoors in her flowers, learning to quilt, and painting. In her free time, she also enjoyed doing needle point, and she finished an embroidered tablecloth she had started in 1951.

Public visitation will be held from 2pm to 4pm on Monday June 29, 2020 at Clark Shields Funeral Home in Forest, OH. There will be a private funeral service due to Covid-19 with Pastor David Dissinger officiating. A private graveside will follow at the Hueston Cemetery.
