Gloria Patton, director of the Hardin County Historical Museums, has announced the tree exhibited by Not By Choice won the People’s Choice Award during the recently concluded Festival of Trees.

The tree’s handmade wooden ornaments featured photos and names of honored or remembered individuals along with ribbons signifying the types of cancer they battled. Alongside the brightly lit tree was an informative display that listed the ribbon colors and their cancer type designations.

Additionally, the Directors Award for the prettiest tree went to Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, and the President’s Award was awarded to GANDL Co. for the most traditional tree. These awards were presented at the beginning of the festival.

A total of 26 trees were displayed throughout the Sullivan-Johnson House. Barb Wingfield, chair of the event, expressed her gratitude for those who exhibited trees, the great turnout of visitors during the festival, and to those individuals and groups that helped entertain during the festival.

The HCHM plans to host a Festival of Trees during the 2024 Christmas season that will also feature wreaths. Any group, organization or business interested in participating is asked to contact Gloria Patton at director@hardinmuseums.org or call 419-673-7147.
