Monday started the first full week on the job for two new sheriffs in our region.
In Hancock County Sheriff Michael A. Cortez stated that he is deeply honored and humbled to represent the county in that position.
He takes over for Sheriff Michael Heldman, who retired after 52 years in law enforcement, 28 of those years as Hancock County Sheriff.
In Union County, new Sheriff Mike Justice is on the job.
He defeated incumbent Sheriff Jamie Patton in the March 2024 primary and then ran unopposed in November’s election.
