Kenton City Council their final meeting of 2023 . During the proceedings Resolution 23-030 was a topic of much discussion. On the surface this is a simple resolution allowing the city to enter into a contract with the Buck and Pleasant Township Fire Districts. The city has long provided the townships with the services of the fire department in exchange for $33,000 from each township, this is a rate that, according to councilman David Beazley, has remain unchanged for 19 years. The contract that would go on to be accepted increases that rate to $40,000 for each township as costs to the city of kenton have esculated over the years. However, the new contract would allow the townships to have the increase reduced pro rata should an annexation of said townships’ current propery occur. Mayor Lynn Webb would share that the city is actively seeking annexation of four properties near Fairground Road: a vacant lot, a car wash, the mortgage portion of Quest FCU, and McCullough Trucking. If annexed the city would immedietly begin collecting income tax from the businesses and employees not already living in the city. To put it more simply, thanks to this agreemen, if an annexation of property by the City of Kenton takes place and Buck or Pleasant Township then loses revenue they would the revieve a portion of the agreed upon $40,000 going towards fire services back to help offset that loss.
