The Black Swamp Area Council, Scouting America, launched its 2026 Friends of Scouting campaign on Thursday with an exceptionally successful community breakfast at the Hancock Hotel.  Hosted by Dr. Aaron Doty, the event generated $58,575 in contributions and pledges from attendees and early supporters.

The morning opened with the presentation of colors and Pledge of Allegiance led by Scouts from Troop 322 chartered to the Churches of God, General Conference.  Pastor Kirk Schneemann of College First Church of God offered the invocation.

2026 Friends of Scouting Chair, Adam Cupp speaking at the breakfast

Friends of Scouting Campaign Chair Adam Cupp welcomed more than a hundred community leaders, emphasizing the importance of local investment to keep Scouting strong across Northwest and West Central Ohio.  Thanks to breakfast hosts Dr. Aaron and Dr. Stan Doty, 100% of funds raised will go directly to support youth programs within the Black Swamp Area Council.

Guests heard inspiring remarks from Eagle Scout Emerson Wise, a senior at Findlay High School who earned 36 merit badges and began his Scouting journey with Pack 309 before joining Troop 322.  Wise shared how Scouting shaped his leadership, confidence, and service to the community.

The keynote address was delivered by State Representative Ty Mathews, who spoke about the importance of character‑building programs that help prepare young people for life.

Scout Executive Marc Kogan provided an update on Scouting across the council’s 13‑county service area.  He highlighted the council’s continued growth in youth leadership, outdoor programs, and the staunch support of community partners and the table hosts.  Reminded attendees that Scouting invests over $300 per Scout each year, with Friends of Scouting remaining one of the most important sources of local support.

All proceeds from the Friends of Scouting campaign stay within the Black Swamp Area Council, supporting year‑round camping at Camp Berry and Camp Lakota, training for volunteers, leadership development programs, and essential resources for Scouts and families.  These investments help young people develop lifelong values, skills, and confidence—preparing them for success in school, career, and community.
