NWS: Potential for All Weather Hazards into this Evening

We are keeping an eye on the weather today.

First of all, there is a Flood Watch in effect through this (Tuesday) evening.

Occasional showers and thunderstorms are expected today through this evening. 

Between 1 and 2 inches of rain has fallen, and additional rainfall amounts of up to an inch are possible.

Some severe storms can be expected between 3 and 10 PM with the potential for all weather hazards. 

Damaging winds, large hail, and several tornadoes, some strong or intense, will be possible.

In addition, a Flood Warning has been issued for Marion County.

Forecast flooding changed from Minor to Moderate severity and increased in duration for the  Scioto River Near Larue affecting Marion County.

The Flood Warning is in effect through this Thursday since runoff will continue once the rain stops.

IMPACTS…At 11.0 feet, Flooding occurs in agricultural areas near the river.

At 12.0 feet, Flooding occurs in lowland areas south of the Village of La Rue.

Roads inundated include High Street, Larue Prospect Road, and parts of Vine Street.

At 13.0 feet, River at bankfull in the Village of La Rue.

Widespread flooding on area roads including School Street.

At 14.0 feet, River out of banks in La Rue.

Water will spread into Front Street and East School Street. Access in and out of La Rue cut off in Several areas.

At 14.5 feet,

Major flood losses in the Village of La Rue expected. Many roads become inundated. Floodwaters effectively surround the town. The river will flood portions of northern LaRue which will affect lower areas in the center of the city. Southern portions of the town also affected. Several access roads inundated.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…

  • At 10:00 AM EDT Tuesday the stage was 11.2 feet.
  • Bankfull stage is 9.0 feet.
  • Forecast…The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this afternoon to a crest of 13.1 feet tomorrow morning.

It will then fall below flood stage Thursday afternoon.

  • Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
