Chad Thomas Roof, age 37, passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2022. Chad was born to Thomas Roof and Alice (Dunbar) Roof and had a younger sister, Taylor (Roof) Klinger. Chad was an active member of the Kenton and Indian Lake community. He never met a stranger and he made sure of it by saying, “hi, hi, hi” until they would respond. If he was feeling a bit rambunctious the “hi, hi, hi’s” may turn in to loud high- pitched “hey, hey hey’s” which was his well-known “call sign” around town. Chad, although Autistic, never let that stop him. He lived a happy and healthy life in his childhood home until his death.

Chad’s future was shaped by many individuals within the community. He was a student at Simon Kenton School and was involved with Harco Industries and You Care Habilitation Services. Equally as influential in Chad’s life were his caregivers; Tami and Jerry Buerger, Christa Quail, Brenda Lutz, Lori and Brian Petty, Trisha Carson, Angela Martino, Josh Benton, Carl Beaucamp, and Rickie King. Thank you for loving Chad just as he loved you.

Chad had many individuals that advocated for him and loved him very much. Thank you to Dr. Paul and Kim Wesson and Cheryl and Larry Baughman for always being there for him. We are forever grateful for your dedication and love to Chad.

Chad was very involved in Kenton Athletics. You could find him on the field at football games or watching basketball behind the scores table with his dad. Chad even received an honorary State Championship football necklace from Coach Mike Mauk in 2001.

He loved to take car and golf cart rides, spending time at Indian Lake with his dad and going on adventures with the You Care Habilitation boys.

There will be no funeral services, but the family will be accepting donations for an inclusive, handicapped accessible playground that will be built near the Hardin County YMCA in Chad’s honor. Chad’s family wants to give back to the community that supported and embraced Chad during his short lifetime.

Donations can be made in person or via phone with credit card (419-674-4998) at Quest Federal Credit Union (Chad Roof Memorial), or through PayPal (@chadroofmemorial) or Venmo (@chadroofmemorial). All donations will go towards the equipment for the Chad Roof Inclusive Playground.

We hope that you can see the world as Chad Roof did. Arrangements have been entrusted to the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Online condolences can be expressed to the family by visiting stoucrates.com.
