Obituary for Charles Thomas “Tom” Cassell

           Charles Thomas “Tom” Cassell, age 95, of Ada, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Lima Memorial Health System.       

            He was born on March 12, 1928, in Eaton, Ohio to the late Roy Lewis and Etoilla Fern (Lincoln) Cassell. On August 19, 1950, Tom married Ruth J. Kay who preceded him in death on June 12, 2010.  

            Tom is survived by his partner, Shirley Chambers of Ada; son, Thomas R. (Sue Clarke) Cassell of Mt. Vernon; two daughters: Marilee (John) Beebe of Elida and Beth (John) Howard of Ada; ten grandchildren: Christine Such, Bryan (Sarah) Cassell, Michael A. Agin, Rosanne (Pete) Hughes, Gary (Melanie) Beebe, Johnathan Howard, Mary Howard, James (Amanda) Howard, Kimberly (Sean Burbano) Howard, and Timothy Howard; and fifteen great grandchildren. 

            He was preceded in death by two brothers: John Cassell and Riley Cassell; and sister, Tina Lee Cassell. 

            Tom was an area manager for Columbia Gas of Ohio, retiring after working for forty-one years.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II and the Korean War.  He was a member of the Ada First United Methodist Church.  He was a lifetime member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 and a member of the American Legion Post #185.  Tom was a member of the Sager Masonic Lodge #513 of LaFayette F & AM and the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Dayton. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for over seventy years.  

            Funeral Services will begin at  11:00 AM on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada with Pastor Brandi Rigsby officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.  Burial will be held at a later date in Ridge Hill Cemetery, Amherst.   

            Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. A Masonic service will begin at 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 15th at the funeral home.                     

            Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America and/or the American Lung Association.
