Dana George Staley, age 77, of Harrod, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 4, 1945 in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Russell and Winifred Colleen (Mason) Staley. Dana was married to Pamela (Kinsey) Staley in September 1985; she survives in Harrod.
Also surviving are his son and daughter: Ryan (Kim) Staley of Harrod,and Hannah (Patrick) Holmes of Harrod; daughter-in-law, Kayla Staley of Shawnee; fourteen grandchildren; two brothers: Thad (JoAnn) Staley of LaFayette, and Matt (Jill) Staley of LaFayette; and three sisters: Rita (Robert) Holman of LaFayette, Jane Rayl of LaFayette, and Gina (Todd) Burley of Williamsport, PA.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mason Kinsey Staley on November 26, 2021 and a grandson, Hayden.
Dana retired from the Allen County Engineers Office, where he worked as a surveyor. He also worked at Bluffton University after his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War as an artillery surveyor. Dana served from June 1, 1966 to March 8, 1968. Dana boxed in the military, he was a Golden Gloves boxer, and won the Toughman Competition of Allen County. He attended the County Line Church, Harrod. Dana was a member of the Hog Creek Game Club, the Ohio Archeological Society, and other Archeology organizations. He was an avid rock hunter and enjoyed gardening. Dana was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and any sport or activity his kids and grandkids were in. Dana loved his family.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 6, 2023 at County Line Church, 4227 N. Hardin Road, Harrod, Ohio with Pastor Chris Ewing and Pastor Thomas Dearth officiating. Burial will be in Desenberg Cemetery, LaFayette with graveside military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at County Line Church, 4227 N. Hardin Road, Harrod, Ohio and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hog Creek Game Club, 11851 Stemple Road, Ada, Ohio 45812.
