David Paul Sturgeon, 81, of Kenton, Ohio, went home to his heavenly father on April 15, 2023 at 2:47am at his home, surrounded by family.
David was born on July 9, 1941 in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Frank Elbert Sturgeon and Katharine (Crabill) Sturgeon.
Being the son of a schoolteacher and administrator, he developed a love of learning and serving others, which became the foundation of his career. David graduated from Kenton High School in 1959, and from The Ohio State University, Ohio Northern University, Bowling Green State University, and Ashland University with degrees in education and administration. He worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent in Kenton City Schools for 37 years.
After retirement, he worked at the Educational Service Center in Kenton, Marion Correctional Institution, Ace Hardware, Carter Lumber, and Price Funeral Home
In addition to his work, he volunteered in/for the Lion’s Club, Quest Federal Credit Union, United Way, and Hardin County sheriff’s office. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Roberta Orick, Francis (William) Meyer, Marjorie (Harry) Vondran; a brother, John (Marilyn) Sturgeon; in-laws, Frank and Margaret (Dysert) McKinley; brothers-in-law, Richard McKinley, and Russell McKinley.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Sharon (McKinley) Sturgeon; his children, Michael (Robyn) Sturgeon, Kenton, OH; Andrea (David) Keller, Vienna, VA; 4 grandchildren, Katelyn and Samantha Sturgeon, Katharine and Christopher Keller; brothers-in law, Dale (Pat) McKinley, David (Jerelyn) McKinley of Dola; sisters-in-law, Jean McKinley, Sandy McKinley; numerous nieces and nephews; and his guardian and protector, his dog, Max.
Visitation will be held at 9am-12pm Saturday, May 13, 2023 with a Celebration of Life Ceremony beginning at 12:00 p.m. noon at Price McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Pastor Dave Dooley officiating.
David always believed in paying it forward, so in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the David P. Sturgeon scholarship fund, via Excellence for Education, Kenton City Schools, 222 W. Carrol St. Kenton, OH 43326.
