Obituary for David R. Sutherland

David R. Sutherland, 82, of Kenton, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.  

He was born in Logan County on January 4, 1939, to the late John R. and Mabel R. (Sickles) Sutherland.

David married Sara Sue “Suzie” Crateson June 10, 1967, and she survives along with children Jeffrey (Karen) Sutherland and Pamela (David) Smith, both of Kenton; grandchildren Nathan (Amanda Braun) Sutherland, Natalie (Ryan) Noyes, Erica (Ethan) Shepherd, and Amber Smith; six great-grandchildren: Nicole, Abram, Hunter, Mabel, Winchester, and Gideon; and sister-in-law Carol Sutherland of New Mexico. David is also survived by sister Linda Hicks of Kenton and brother Dick (Dee) Sutherland of Sun City West, AZ. Mr. Sutherland was preceded in death by brothers John and Bob Sutherland, sister Helen Collins, and brother-in-law Don Hicks.  

David began his career working as an ice man for Crystal Ice and Cold Storage. He was the last “Ice Man” in Kenton. He then worked for Kenton Structural Steel, Rockwell, and finally Kenton City Schools, where he worked maintenance for 20 years.

Visitation for David was held on Monday, February 15, 2021 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. A funeral service followed at 1:00pm on Monday with Pastor Steve Hess officiating. Burial took place in Grove Cemetery.
