Don R. Lay, 78, of rural Belle Center, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday evening, May 20, 2021, after battling congestive heart failure.
Don was born in Hardin County on September 13, 1942, to the late Earl and Elizabeth (Sproul) Lay. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Lloyd Lay, Dorothy Kelley, and Edward Lay.
Don married Jane Reed on August 3, 1963, at the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church, and she survives in Belle Center. He is also survived by their children: Teresa (Dennis) Walls of Leo, Indiana, Kathy (Todd) Dawson of Westerville, and Tony Lay of Belle Center; grandson Robert Walls; and sister Evelyn Jones of Belle Center.
A 1960 graduate of Belle Center High School, where he earned an FFA State Farmer degree, he honorably served four years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps. He retired after working thirty years at Rockwell International in Kenton.
Pastor Amber Rex will officiate a graveside service on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 2pm at McDonald-Fairview Cemetery, State Route 67 west of Kenton. Following the graveside service, friends and family are invited to share a cup of coffee, some of Don’s favorite desserts, and fond memories at the Roundhead United Methodist Church.
