Gary passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family after a 9 month battle with lung cancer. He was born in Marysville to the late Robert Bahan and Katherine (Delaney) Johnson.
Gary graduated from Triad high school in 1965 and soon after married Mary Ann Slemmons. With whom he had two children, Natalie and Travis Bahan. He worked for Singer Sewing machines in sales and later as an office manager. He also worked for Stocksdale’ s as a meat cutter and butcher. However, his dream was to own his own farm and he accomplished that dream by buying a house and about 80 acres in 1972. He later married Barbara Jones and had two beautiful daughter’s, Jennifer and Ashley. He was a member of the Marysville Young Farmers Association where himself and Barbara traveled the country exploring other families farming operations. The farm grew and endured the rough times in the 80s, he stood strong with the help of family and his extreme determination to never quit. Gary was so determined to grow the dream. When times were lean he would drive a semi-truck through trip leasing to make ends meet. He looked for and took advantage of any opportunity needed to support his family and survive another year. Another year to plant and another year to harvest. His goal was always to make it through to play the game one more year, one more planting season, one more harvest season, until the Lord came for him. His wisdom and his calm sense of seeing all sides of any situation created 4 children, their spouses, and many grandchildren who will never lose their hope to survive whatever it takes to grow and reap the seeds of just one more year. On most evenings in the summer, you could find Gary driving around in his gator checking his crops. His favorite saying was as follows: “I’m a business man and I like to watch my investments grow, like the farmer and the rancher, I like to reap what I sow.” From all of us children, we want to say thank you Dad, because you invested in us, and we will take it from here.
Surviving are his children; Natalie (Bill) Branan of West Mansfield, Travis (Brittanie) Bahan of Mt. Victory, Jennifer (Leah) Bahan-Harris of Dayton, Ashley (Kurt) Martino of Mt. Victory, grandchildren; Cody (Kierstan) Grates, William (Cassandra) Branan, Taylor Bahan, Bailey Bahan, Bradley Bahan, Lexi Bahan, Kaden Bahan, Amaranth Bahan-Harris, Tinlee Martino, Haven Martino, great-grandchildren; August, Asher and Ella, a brother; Ron (Sandy) Bahan of North Lewisburg, and a special aunt; Geraldine (Cleon) Lininger.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Larry Bahan, Steve Bahan and a step-father; Phillip Johnson.
