Obituary for Gary Lee Burris

Gary Lee Burris, 82 of rural Kenton passed away at his residence on Friday, February 16, 2024.  He was born in Alger, OH to the late Fremont and Rosanna (Rankin) Burris.  He married Martha Manns on Aug. 21, 1963 and she survives along with their two daughters, Robyn (Mark) Tullius and Angela (Thomas) Jordan; grandchildren, Ashlee (Ben) Erb, Darren (Ashley) Tullius; Austin (Justina) Tullius and Leighanna Jordan; 10 great-grandchildren, Brantley, Brody and Brinlee Erb; Lily Atkinson and David and Emily Tullius; Jaxson, Hensley, Callie and Gatlin Tullius; and a brother, Robert Burris.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Davis, a brother, Myron Burris and several nieces and nephews.  
He was a 1959 graduate of Kenton High School, received his Bachelor’s of Education from Ohio Northern University in 1963, his Master’s of Education in 1968 from Xavier University and his PH.D in 1979 from Walden University.  He served in many capacities in the field of education including: teacher, counselor, principal and superintendent.  Following retirement from Ridgemont, he went on to work at Schindewolf-Stout-Crates Funeral Home for over 20 years serving the families of Hardin County.  Gary was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Hardin County Coonhunters, the Hardin County Gideons, and a volunteer for the VIP Sheriff Department.  A member of Faith Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, Gary’s faith was very important to him and his family.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME.  Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Burns officiating.  Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery.  Memorials can be made to Faith Baptist Church or Gideon’s International in his memory.  Online condolences can be shared by visiting stoutcrates.com.
