of Dunkirk

At John’s request there will be no services.The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with the arrangements. 

John died on February 13, 2022 at his residence. He was born on November 6,1939 at his home in Hardin County to the late Raymond and Zelma Vermillion. He married Marcile Williams in 1959 and she survives in Dunkirk.

Also surviving are 3 sons; Kirwin (Amy) Vermillion of Ada, Ted (Marlene) Vermillion of Dunkirk, Brendan Vermillion of Renton, Washington, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 sister; Mary Kay Todd of Mt. Gilead.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Florence Jean Hepner, Edith Rachel Shaw and 1 great grandson; Corbin Vermillion.

John graduated from Mt. Blanchard in 1957 then went to Bowling Green University where he met Marcile Williams. They had moved to Columbus where John finished his education at The Ohio State University. He worked 5 years at the Ohio Credit Union League.They bought a farm in Hardin County near his folks place. John helped his folks farm along with his sons, plus farming his own place. He also got a job teaching at Forest then Kenton City School where he was known as “Mr. V.” where he spent 31 years teaching. 

In 1984 John was diagnosed with MS. Since the boys were on their own by then, John and Marcile began summer travel while he could still walk.

He enjoyed motorcycling which had to be given up, doing crossword puzzles, watching OSU football on tv and especially reading. He amassed a huge library of books. In January of this year the whole family got together and had a really good visit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to International Heifer.
