Obituary for Larry T. Speirs

Larry T. Speirs, 75 of rural Kenton passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at his residence.  He was born in Gassaway, WV on March 17, 1946.  He married Saundra Baldridge in 1966 and she survives.  Larry and Saundra had four children, Sheryl (deceased) (Richard) Furer, Sarah (Steve) Gilbert, Scott (Rebecca Muller) Speirs and Amanda (Bill) Johnson; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Dolores (Smith) Boone and two brothers, Toby and Billy Boone.  He is survived by two brothers, Bernard (Nancy) Boone and Chuck Boone and three sisters, Sharan Kay (Randy) Helmick, Vanessa James and Donna (Kenneth) Moore.  
Larry served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Air Force (1964-68) as a medic.  Larry spent his career in law enforcement, he first worked at the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy, followed by the Kenton Police Department where he retired as Sergeant.  He served as the Hardin County Child Support Enforcement Field Investigator (the first in the state of Ohio), was on the mounted posse and also worked at the Lima Penitentiary as a guard.  He was a pistol expert, firearms instructor, driving instructor, avid hunter, reader (especially interested in Civil War history and the study of law).  He was a member of Calvary Church of Christ in Ridgeway where he served as a elder.  
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, July 22, 2021 at SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Cory Savage officiating.  Burial will follow in Tymochtee Cemetery, Wyandot County where the AMVETS Post 1994 will present full military rites.  Visitation will be held from 4:00pm-8:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials can be directed to the Mary Lou Johnson, Hardin County Public Library or to the Calvary Church of Christ, Ridgeway in his memory and online condolences can be shared with the family by visiting stoutcrates.com.
