Lillian Irene McClain, 98, of Holland, OH, and formerly of Upper Sandusky and Nevada, died Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at The Lakes of Sylvania, Sylvania Township, Lucas County, OH.

Born on February 9, 1924, in Crane Township, Wyandot County, OH, she was a daughter (the second of five children) of the late Alfred Gale and Dorothy Irene (Swan) Wilson.

She married Charles Edwin McClain on November 2, 1944, at the Salem Evangelical Church parsonage in Eden Township, Wyandot County, OH. He was born February 15, 1922, and died July 7, 1980.

Mrs. McClain is survived by two children, C. Edwin McClain, Jr. (James F. Blanton), Columbia, SC, and Millers Creek, NC, and Karen S. Hostetler, Holland; four grandchildren, Darin R. (Shawn) Smith, Fort Walton Beach, FL, Johnathan F. (Laura) McClain, Los Angeles, CA, David M. (Rachel) Hostetler, Holland, and Courtney C. (Jeffrey) Roberts, Saint Simons Island, GA; three great-grandchildren, Lily Roberts and Jacob and Kaeden Hostetler; a brother, Jack S. Wilson, Upper Sandusky; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Schmidt, Upper Sandusky, and Barbara McClain, Cedar Rapids, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Virginia E. Schwabel and Miriam L. Holtshouse; a brother, Thomas G. Wilson; five brothers-in law, Carl A. Schwabel, Charles A. Holtshouse, Richard F. McClain, Franklin E. McClain, and Joseph L. McClain; two sisters-in-law, Laura L. Wilson and Marilyn J. McClain; and a son-in-law, David L. Hostetler.

Mrs. McClain graduated from Eden High School in the Class of 1942. She was a homemaker and managed the family farm east of Nevada. After graduating from high school, she worked at the General Electric Lamp Plant in Bucyrus, and after her children were grown, she was a cook and interim cafeteria manager at the Nevada School. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, east of Upper Sandusky, for many years and later attended John Stewart United Methodist Church. She followed the Cleveland Indians/Guardians through thick and thin for over 85 years.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022 at Bringman Clark Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Graveside services will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.
