Martha died on Monday, March 1, 2021, at her residence in Kenton surrounded by her family. She was born on November 3, 1932, in Belle Center to the late Frank and Catherine (Wilson) Shaffer. Martha married Wayne Melvin Nickell in 1950, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are daughter Kathleen Ann (Bruce) Hensley, son Gregory Allan (Maura) Nickell, siblings Barbara (Lloyd) Davis, Annabelle Horne, Mary Ann (Bill) Prater, and Duwayne (Kia) Shaffer, grandchildren Wendy Marie Nickell, Christopher Allen Nickell, Bryce Wayne (Valerie) Hensley, Derek Ray Hensley, and Tiffany Louise (Drew) Snow, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha graduated from Roundhead High School in 1950. She then attended college at the Lima Memorial School of Nursing.

Martha was the head surgical nurse in the surgical department of Hardin Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. She then became the Director of Nursing at the Hardin County Home. Martha retired with over 50 years in her nursing career and was also a Roundhead EMT for over 20 years.

Martha enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, fishing and spending every minute she could with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She also loved to help out on the farm by driving the combine and semis. She grew her own vegetables and would can them. She was the go to person for any question or compromise in life. She would always guide her family in the right direction and will be deeply missed.
