Maxine Lyon Walton, 98, of Upper Sandusky passed away peacefully Sunday, July 31, 2022. She was born April 26, 1924 in Marion County to the late John and Effie (Ziegler) Lyon.
In 1945, she married Samuel A. Walton in Columbus, GA where he was stationed at the time. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage before his death in 1996. She then married Dale A. Walton and they celebrated 17 years of marriage before his death in 2016.
She is survived by her five children, Thornton “Duffy” (Denise) Walton, Christine (Steve) Eatherton, both of Cape Coral, FL, Rebecca (Tom) Vaughn, Marcia Cranston both of Upper Sandusky, and Kathryn (Tom) May of Pflugerville, TX, and her grandchildren, Loy Walton, Joey Eatherton, Lisa Weber, Tim Eatherton, Natalie Elix, Wade Vaughn, Christopher Cranston, Chelsea Cranston, and Sarah Hutson, and thirteen great grandchildren and one on the way, and many dear nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, three grandchildren Terri, Wesley, and Samuel and one brother Russell (Margaret), and sisters Juanita Lyon and Evelyn (Eugene) Long.
In 1945, Mrs. Walton graduated from Riverside-White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus. She enjoyed being a stay home mom for many years before practicing at Fairhaven Home for several years as an RN. During her youth, she worked at the Kroger Store in Upper Sandusky with her dad, brother, and sisters before her dad and brother went on to own Lyon’s Foodland IGA.
She was the strength of her family giving them unconditional love, a sense of humor, and the focus to thank God every day for His grace and blessings, She had a natural and genuine way of helping and caring for others. She enjoyed making family get togethers and holidays very special. She will be missed by so many.
