Norma A. Wanamaker, born on April 18, 1937, in Deshler, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Ohio. She was 87 years old.
Norma’s dedication to the field of nursing spanned several decades and included significant roles at institutions. She began her nursing career after graduating from Mercy School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio, and continued her education at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. Norma served as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital in Toledo and Georgetown/University Hospital in Washington, DC Her commitment to healthcare was further exemplified during her tenure as the Director of Nursing Services at the former Med Center Hospital in Marion, Ohio. She ultimately retired from Ohio Health Marion General Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and care.
Beyond her professional achievements, Norma was passionate about health advocacy and community service. She was a valued member of the Ohio Diabetes Task Force and played an instrumental role as a founding board member of the Nursing Program at Marion Technical College. Her involvement also extended to serving on the Board of the American Cancer Society for the Marion Area and engaging with the Heart of Ohio Chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
Norma is survived by her brother, John (Linda) Wanamaker of West Bloomfield, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her father, Norbert J. Wanamaker, her mother, Lucille A. (Webken) Wanamaker, her sister, Marilyn Wanamaker, and her brother, Joseph Wanamaker, who died in infancy.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 21, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 AM, with Deacon Kevin Wintersteller officiating at Bringman Clark Funeral Home. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery in Fremont at 2:30pm on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes in care of Bringman Clark Funeral Home 226 E.
