Obituary for Rex Russell Kellogg

Rex Russell Kellogg, 84, of Forest, OH, passed away Sat, April 1. Rex was born July 3,1938 to Max and Edith (Beach) Kellogg. He was a bachelor until December 7, 1985 when he married the love of his life, Mary Martha Best Ream; she passed away Oct 13, 1998. They had a very loving relationship and their life was fun. Rex retired after 30 years in the US Navy Reserve. He had many great memories and experiences with the Navy. He was a proud farmer, raised Corriedale sheep and had many cherished livestock dogs. He lived on his Certified Century Family Farm. He worked as a mechanic and machinist for many years, but  retired from Imperial Bondware. Rex was Trustee for Jackson Township. He was a member of Blanchard River Church of Christ, IOOF Lodge, Hardin County Farm Bureau, Amvets, Elks and Moose. He graduated high school from Dola class of 1956.

Rex is survived by a step-daughter and son-in-law whom he considered his own daughter and son, Tim and Carrie (Ream) Woodruff, Ada OH and a step-son Jerry Ream, Elwood IN. Rex had a granddaughter, Britney (Kyle) Ricker and a devoted grandson John (Kyleigh) Woodruff and 3 great-grandkids: Riley and Abby Ricker, and Teddy Woodruff. Rex was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth (Marjorie “Midge” Sprang) Kellogg. Rex always looked up to and admired his brother. He had 3 nephews: Curtis (Connie) Kellogg, Randy (Kelly) Kellogg and Scott Kellogg and 1 niece Janette Shocklee. Rex had many great renters on the duck farm, he had some that were as close as family: Don Drumm and Lynne Rogers and one that preceded him in death, Mike Spearman. Additional special renters at 309: Helen and girls, Glen and Tammie Whitten and kids. Rex was very close with his farmers Duane, Danny and Corey Thomson.

Rex is best known for driving his golf cart or truck around the artesian well neighborhood, mainly slow and maybe in the middle of the road. Everywhere he went someone would always know him. Rex was an advocate for farm safety since his farm accident in 1988. This left him with a fused leg, but never stopped him from getting things done. Rex was a gentle, quiet man and will genuinely be missed.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 13 from 5-7pm at Clark Shields Funeral Home, Forest, OH.
