Richard C. “Dick” Warfel age 85 of Upper Sandusky, died at his residence on Feb. 22, 2022. He was born Oct. 24, 1936 in Upper Sandusky to the late Byron and Irene (Nutter) Warfel. He married Thelma Mallin on Aug. 8, 1959, she resides in Upper Sandusky. Mr. Warfel is survived by a son Daniel Warfel, Upper Sandusky, a daughter Karen (Thomas) Byrnes, Columbus, 5 grandchildren Heather Nesser, Jessica Byrnes, Abigail (Alexander Parks) Warfel, Scott Warfel and Haley Byrnes, 2 great grandchildren Rae and Claire Nesser, a brother Edward (Sue) Warfel, sisters Janice (Dave) Eippert and Ruthann Milligan, all of Upper Sandusky.

Mr. Warfel graduated from Upper Sandusky High School with the class of 1954. He was a United States Navy Veteran. He is a member of John Stewart United Methodist Church. He worked with Warfel Heating and Air Conditioning. Mr. Warfel served on the Wyandot County Sheriff Auxiliary for 45 years. Mr. Warfel was a life member of, BPOE #83 where he was past Exalted Ruler, Amvets Post #777, American Legion Post #225, VFW Post #2842. He was past president of the Upper Sandusky Lions Club, was a 32nd Degree Mason, past president of Elks National Bowling, volunteered with the Red Cross and served on the Upper Sandusky Volunteer Fire Dept. He was an avid outdoors man especially enjoying fishing at Lake Erie and going hunting with his Dad. He also enjoyed many years of riding motorcycles, traveling with friends, spending time on the porch with his family in the warm summer months. He and his brother bought Shorty’s Tavern and renamed it the present day Boxcar Tavern.

Funeral services will be held at Bringman Clark Funeral Home on Thurs. Feb. 24, 2022 at 11:30AM. with Pastor Johnny Phillips Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30AM. before time of services at the funeral home. Interment will be in Old Mission Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Wyandot Co.
