Richard John Scharf 66

of Ontario (formerly of Kenton)

Richard John Joseph Scharf, born September 19, 1957, the eighth of ten children of Carl and Mary Scharf of New Bloomington, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Mount

Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Columbus due to health complications.

Rick is survived by his wife Christina “Chris”, 4 brothers; Mike of New Bloomington, Tom of Cape Coral, FL; Pat (Gail) of Marion, and Steve of Marion, 5 sisters; Mary Jo Majors

(Dave) of Platteville, CO, Diane Robinson (Frank) of Richwood, Carol (John) Thiel of Marion, Jane Scharf of Marion, and Paula Price of LaRue, as well as 28 nieces and nephews, 57 great nieces

and nephews and 1 great-great niece. Chris would like to say a special thank you to Jim and Michelle Thiel for their close relationship and tremendous help over the years.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, 2 nephews and a niece.

On July 23, 1983 Rick married Christina L Cole. They recently celebrated their 41st anniversary. Their wedding was in the front yard of his mother’s home before whisking her off on a

motorcycle. They built their home in Mansfield 20 years ago.

Rick was a 1975 graduate of Marion Catholic High School. He was raised on his family’s farm and was never afraid to try building, repairing and inventing new things. Rick’s adventures

included working for Marion Power Shovel; welding skyscrapers in Houston, building homes in Atlanta, making cabinets at LaRue Millworks, working for Rhodes HVAC and spent the last 20

years of his working career employed by Peacock Water as Commercial Industrial Manager. Chris sends out a special thanks to Jeremy Schreck at Peacock for his friendship and wonderful

laughs along the way.

Our “peanut butter kid” will always be remembered as Chris’ Hero (and ours) and for his joyful laughter and his love of helping anyone who needed his help. May he rest in peace in the

loving arms of Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenton, Ohio or the Fresenius Kidney Care Crawford County in

Bucyrus or the Avita Health System – Bucyrus Wound Clinic.

A Catholic Mass will be held in Kenton with burial in the St. Mary’s cemetery. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with the arrangements.
