Obituary for Rodney Gale McQuown

Rodney Gale McQuown, age 72, La Rue died Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 @ 6:39pm at the Arbors Care Facility in Delaware. Services will be held at the Price-McElroy Funeral home in Kenton on Tuesday March 15th at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Michael Raypholtz officiating. There will be 1 hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery with full military honors performed by the VFW Post 9473 of Reynoldsburg. 

Rod was born in Kenton on December 26, 1949 to the late Richard and Fern (Wuethrich) McQuown.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia Susan (Lament) McQuown, children Heidi (Jason) Lawrence of Reynoldsburg, Eric McQuown of Kenton, and Jeremy McQuown of La Rue, grandchildren Allen McKean of Columbus, US Marine Sgt. Linsie (Eric) Marie of New Bern, NC, Joshua Lawrence of Reynoldsburg, and great grandchildren Vivianna McKean of Fredericktown, and Ian Marie and Sophia Marie of New Bern, NC. 

Rod is also survived by sister-in-law Pamela McQuown of Bellefontaine, brother Jerry (Diana) McQuown of Richwood, brother Michael (Sharon) McQuown of Upper Sandusky, sister-in-law Donna McQuown of Kenton, and brother Jeffrey (April Dimon) McQuown of Kenton, brother-in-law Melvin Hinkle of LaFollette, TN, sister-in-law Peggy (Joe Thompson) Alexander of Maplewood, sister-in -law Donna (Jeffery) Morrison of Kenton, sister-in-law Marilyn (Richard) Houchins of Lakeview, sister-in-law Janet(Pat) Evers of DeGraff, brother-in-law Elzie Mabrey Jr of Kenton, sister-in-law Elsie (Dave) Campbell of Marion, sister-in-law Marlene (Bill) Mundy of Findlay, brother-in-law Ira Mabrey of Kenton, brother-in-law Jim (Deb) Mabrey of Kenton, sister-in-law Ercle Lament of Grove City and sister-in-law June Danzig of Warren, Ml.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; Richard L. McQuown and Waland (Wally) McQuown, a sister-in-law Nancy Hinkle, and brother-in-law John Moore , brother-in-law Brian Alexander, brother-in-law Kenneth Lament, brother-in-law Allen Danzig, sister-in-law Irene Mabrey, and sister-in-law Sue Mabrey. 

Rod graduated from Kenton Senior High in 1968 where he lettered in both basketball and baseball. He was a member of the 1967 Western Buckeye League Championship team. Two of his brothers were also members of the WBL Championship teams: Michael in 1963 and Jeff in 1981.He was drafted into the US Army in May of 1969 and served a Tour of Duty in VietNam from 1970-1971.He was a lifetime member of the Forest VFW 1182 Post. Rod was a past member of La Rue United Methodist Church and had attended Epworth United Methodist Church.

Rod and Sue were married July 18, 1970 at the Epworth United Methodist Church by Reverend Richard Davis and had celebrated 51 years of marriage . Rod worked 25 yrs in management for F.W. Woolworth in Kenton, Mansfield, Cincinnati, and Milwaukee then later for TG&Y in Marysville and Maloney’s in Kentucky .. He was a top salesman of advertising for WMRM Radio in Marion and then sole proprietor of RGM Specialties in LaRue. Rod loved his family and was so proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. His beloved pets included Rocky, Whiskers, and Munchkin. He filled the bird feeders full each morning and was rewarded with many visitors. 

Rod lost his 3 year battle with multiple myeloma cancer. Many thanks from the family to the Department of Veteran Administration, Dr. Anitba Nallari, oncologist at Marion General, the infusion nurses at Marion General Hospital, Dr. Joel Mayerson and the Orthopedic Department at the James Cancer Hospital, the Marion Promedica Hospice nurses and caregivers, and the great staff at the Arbors Care Facility in Delaware. 

Memorial donations may be given to the Disabled Veterans of America Organization.
