OhioHealth is proud to announce plans for a new comprehensive outpatient cancer center.  This new center is focused equally on expanding access to cancer care and improving patient experience. The new facility will be located in the current location of the south parking lot on OhioHealth’s administrative campus across from OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.

The comprehensive cancer center will create a seamless experience for our patients.  Services and programs will include:

  • Radiation oncology
  • Surgical oncology clinics
  • Medical oncology
  • Hematology
  • Infusion
  • Diagnostics
  • Lab
  • Several specialized cancer clinics

“This comprehensive cancer center will increase access to care for patients who are dealing with  complicated and aggressive cancers,” said Praveen Dubey, MD, OhioHealth Vice President, Cancer Care.  “Cancer is scary.  With the creation of this facility, we are making care more convenient for our patients and demonstrating that we know their care is a combination of clinical care and the experience every time they interact with us.  This facility will provide a place for central Ohio residents and an option for our patients in the region if they need more complex care outside of their community.”

Construction will include doubling the size of the existing building on the administrative campus, renovations to the current structure and a new parking garage.  This will bring the entire campus structure, located at 3430 OhioHealth Pkwy., to almost 500,000 square feet.

Expanding OhioHealth’s Long-Term Relationship with Columbus Oncology and Hematology Associates

Columbus Oncology and Hematology will be co-located within the cancer center, leasing about 30,000 square feet for a medical oncology clinic, infusion and pharmacy.

“We are honored to collaborate on this center with Columbus Oncology and Hematology. They are one of the most respected cancer experts in our area. Working with them to provide medical oncology and infusion services to both our patients and theirs definitely puts the stamp of world-class medicine on this new facility” said Dr. Dubey.  “We already have multiple cancer centers together and this strengthens that commitment to all those we serve.”

OhioHealth and Columbus Oncology and Hematology have also collaborated on the Dublin Cancer Center and the Westerville Cancer Center.

“It is exciting for Columbus Oncology and Hematology to expand our valued alignment with OhioHealth with our planned presence in the Comprehensive Cancer Center,” said Joseph Hofmeister, MD, President, Columbus Oncology and Hematology.

“Adding this third site together strengthens our long-term relationship with OhioHealth. We will continue to improve the patient experience by combining resources with easy access in one site while offering expert care via an integrated enhanced collaboration among many specialties. The cancer center will allow us to grow community oncology care, cultivating the patient experience.  This collaboration helps to support OhioHealth’s goal of keeping cancer care local and enhances the commitment that Columbus Oncology and Hematology and OhioHealth have to our patients and allows us to provide the utmost quality of care. Additionally, we look forward to expanding patient access to clinical trials, innovative therapies and specialized cancer care services,” said Dr. Hofmeister.

Key Facts and Figures

  • The comprehensive cancer center will be 199,000 square feet, nearly doubling the size of the current administrative campus to 500,000 square feet.
  • Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2026, with the goal to open for patient care in the spring of 2029.
  • OhioHealth currently has over 400 cancer program staff today, and we have plans to add roughly 140+ staff over the next decade, which amounts to roughly a one third growth in oncology staffing.
  • The new center provides a destination for comprehensive cancer services provided by both OhioHealth and Columbus Oncology and Hematology and increases access to care for complicated and aggressive cancers.
  • Concurrently, this new center allows us to advance the cancer care offered at OhioHealth for our growing communities. This includes maintaining our outpatient and inpatient cancer care services available across our footprint to keep care local for chemotherapy management, imaging and procedures.
  • OhioHealth will be working with Design Group and HKS for architecture and design. Gilbane will be the builder.
  • The new comprehensive cancer center does not change our “where we work” status for associates who work in the administrative campus – associates will remain in their current in-office, hybrid or at home status.
