Outgoing McGuffey Mayor Appointed to Village Council

The McGuffey Village Council appointed the outgoing mayor to serve on village council after a member stepped down at Wednesday night’s meeting.

Marianna Watts announced her resignation at the meeting, and then stepped away as council voted 3 to 1 to appoint Matthew Motter effective January.

Council will also potentially need to fill two more positions in the coming weeks.

David Humphreys and Melinda Lightner did not run in November to retain their open seats, and there were no candidates on the ballot to fill the positions.

Council has 30 days to appoint someone then the Mayor of the village will have the opportunity.

After Motter’s term as Mayor ends on December 31, the next day he will be a member of council to fill the seat until it expires at the end of 2025.

Mayor-elect Gary Conley will be sworn in as mayor on January 1, 2024.
