Dean Pees announced this week that he is retiring from the NFL.

Born in Dunkirk in 1949, Pees spent 47 years in coaching. The last two as defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans.

He also served as defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens.

Pees said the time is right to call it a career, “I’ve been around enough to see some coaches and players who maybe stayed around longer than they should have, and I don’t want that to be me. I’m going to spend time with my wife, who’s been very supportive. Our 12th grandchild is on the way and I want to spend time with them. It’s been a great career.”
