LIMA, Ohio, June 12, 2020 – Rhodes State College, a member of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC), has joined the OACC initiative encouraging first-year college students to do “Year One at Home.”

Rhodes State agrees with the OACC that students should be able to take charge of their upcoming semesters by deciding, right now, to take classes online through a two-year college to be certain and safe. Rhodes wants students to stay safe and keep their communities safe all while spending far less money on courses that are easily transferable to a four-year institution.

“Who knows what the higher education landscape will look like this fall? And who knows if, after saving for years and then paying large sums for tuition in a residential setting, conditions may force students to wind-up at home again learning online anyway,” said Jack Hershey, President and CEO of the OACC. “‘Year One at Home’ wipes away all of these unnecessary stress points, replaces them with certainty and lets students move forward focused on learning and their futures.”

As a participating college, Rhodes State College has created a webpage http://www.RhodesState.edu/YearOneatHome) for prospective students to investigate the possibilities as well as view a video message from Dr. Cynthia E. Spiers, President, inviting them to take charge of their upcoming semester, stay safe, and receive excellent, affordable courses.

“Year One at Home” offers students:

1. A Four-Year Plan: Instead of replacing a four-year college, “Year One at Home” keeps students moving toward a four-year degree with guaranteed course transferability.

2. More Savings: Rhodes State is, on average, 58% less expensive than area four-year institutions.

3. Certainty: Rhodes is ready with a blend of classes— online, hybrid, and in-person labs; all meeting the Center for Disease Control’s social distancing guidelines.

Instead of waiting to determine whether universities will be open, or where next year’s classes will be taught, decide to enroll at Rhodes State and spend “Year One at Home.”
