Three roundabouts around the region were recognized during National Roundabouts Week this week, for dramatically improving the safety at intersections.
Two roundabouts were constructed in 2022 at intersections in Allen County.
The result was a 32% reduction in crashes at the intersection of State Route 309 and Napoleon Road and a 63% reduction in fatal and injury crashes.
There was a 45% reduction in crashes at the State Route 309 and Thayer Road intersection, and a 77% reduction in fatal and injury crashes.
A roundabout was completed in 2020 at an intersection on Lima Avenue in Hancock County.
It resulted in an 85% reduction in crashes and 88% reduction in fatal and injury crashes.
In 2019, Governor Mike DeWine directed ODOT to target safety improvements at 150 intersections statewide in rural, suburban, and urban areas.
This represents an investment of $425 million over several years.
