A Kenton woman reported a theft by deception incident to Kenton police Thursday.

According to the report, the victim received a scam phone call saying unless she pays $4500 she would be subject to arrest by the social security administration.

The victim did as told and purchased 9 electronic gift cards and called the scammer back giving them the numbers on the cards.

She was scammed out of $4500.

Calls from social security and the internal revenue service have become common, but they are scams.

Anyone receiving such calls are advised to hang up and not give any information to the callers.
