Shawnee Holds Off Kenton in Weekend Tennis Match

Kenton High School Boys Varsity Tennis falls to Shawnee High School 3-2.

Senior Taj Chahal took his opponent, Gabriel Rutter, to a 3rd set and won 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at 2nd singles to improve his record to 7-4 (3-3 in the WBL) while Junior Hayden Robinson won in a 3rd set tie break versus Adam Stump, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) to even his record to 4-4 (3-4 in the WBL).

Landon Rush lost a close one at 1st singles to Carter Schaaf, 3-6, 5-7 while Rocco Longbrake and Ian Lyons were defeated by Garrett DeMoss and Brayden Ward at 1st doubles, 6-7 (1-7), 3-6. Rylee Messenger and Cameron Zickafoose played their best match of the season at 2nd doubles and lost to Vincent Ruscio and Brock Diehl in 3 sets, 5-7, 6-1, 1-6.

“Although disappointed with the outcome, we were very competitive and played the ball very well while battling the windy conditions.” Coach Rick Collins said. “Having three matches go to 3rd sets is an indication of how close we are to winning. Taj and Hayden came from behind early on and never gave up”

Kenton Varsity and JV teams are home versus St. Mary’s today (Monday).
