Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart (above) is enroute to Indianapolis, Indiana for a kidney transplant.

As you might remember, the Sheriff had a liver transplant last December which damaged his kidneys and resulted in the need for a transplant.

He received the call about a match this morning, and the surgery is scheduled for Thursday morning.

Sheriff Everhart made the announcement via Facebook saying that he felt it was important to keep the public informed, “That will put me out of the office for a couple of weeks, a month something like that, hopefully not that long, but as I told you in the past, I feel that you as the public have a right to know why I’m not in the office, so that’s it, I got my call and going to head to Indianapolis and get a new kidney and get back to work.”

He assured Hardin Countians that the Sheriff’s Office will be in good hands in his absence, “The folks here are amazing as you well know, so please don’t worry about anything at the Sheriff’s Office. We have a tremendous crew here, and I will be in contact with them on a daily basis as usual, so everything will go along as normal.”
