As the April 8 eclipse date draws closer, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is preparing to handle the estimated 50,000 to 100,000 visitors who will be in Hardin County, which is in a line of totality.

Sheriff Keith Everhart said he is confident his office will be ready, “I’ve got extra deputies from southern Ohio coming in from other counties that are not being affected. They’re sending me some extra deputies, because I think one of the biggest issues we’re going to have is just traversing the county. If all of these cars actually come, we’re going to have trouble getting through the county, so I want enough officers to be in separate parts of the county so we don’t really have to travel too far. I don’t want to be Roundhead and have to get to Forest, because I don’t think we’re going to be able to do it.”

And how should the county’s citizens prepare?, “I would suggest that everybody makes sure their vehicles are fueled up before that weekend, make sure you have enough food, and all of that good stuff, and not because we’re going to have some meltdown, but it’s just going to be hard to get to places.”
