Hardin Leadership held a Meet the Candidate forum Tuesday evening.

Candidates for Representative of Ohio’s 83 District fielded a number of questions during the forum.

One of them was what their plan is for economic growth in the district to include Hardin County.

Challenger Ty Mathews said it starts with being fiscally responsible, which he said Republicans seem to have forgotten, “We are supposed to be the party of fiscal conservatism, and yes I would love to bring as much grant money back here as possible, but one of the issues our country is facing is inflation. That’s the reckless spending we have through the government. Again, I want to reduce regulation and reduce your taxes and empower the people.”

Incumbent Jon Cross said it starts with making sure infrastructure can support businesses, “We have to get brownfields redeveloped and flipped into green sites. We have to take money and appropriate at the state level and invest into build-ready sites so our communities can do this. The state’s not going to build Hardin County up, you all are, and what we’re doing is providing the support mechanisms for you to be successful.”
