On an evening when the Logan County Emergency Management Agency was hosting a Severe Weather Spotter Training course Thursday evening, little did they know severe weather would strike the area.

A tornado struck the region  7:30 and 8 Thursday evening leaving behind a path of destruction.

Logan County Sheriff Randall Dodds said the damage was extensive in the Indian Lake area especially in the area between Russel’s Point and Lakeview.

Damage at a mobile home park in the area was devastating. Several homes and businesses were also destroyed.

So far there have been three confirmed fatalities, but Sheriff Dodds said that as the search continues today, that number is expected to rise.

There were also multiple injuries, and the injured were transported to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.

The sheriff is expected to issue a press release later today giving an update on the search and rescue efforts in the area.

In the meantime, The American Red Cross is helping provide temporary housing for those impacted by the storms.

Tornadoes were also reported in Auglaize, Hancock and Wyandot Counties, but we do not have any reports of widespread damage in those areas.
