The University of Northwestern Ohio is proud to announce it will be serving as the host location for the second year in a row for the 2019 Allen County Quiz Bowl. There are three divisions for Allen County – 5/6th grade, 7/8th grade, and high school. UNOH is hosting the 7/8th grade division.

“We are so excited that the University of Northwestern Ohio has agreed to house our 7th and 8th grade matches again this year,” said Shannon Bowers, Director of Gifted Programming with the Allen County Educational Service Center. “Giving students the opportunity to be on a local university campus is an educational experience in and of itself. It’s experiences like this that excite students at this impressionable age and motivates them to continue with higher education after high school. We are all looking forward to the upcoming season as our local districts come together to support our students, coaches and families.”

Hosting the Quiz Bowl again was a no-brainer for UNOH Administration. “We have the space and facilities available and it’s a great opportunity to show area students what UNOH can offer them with world class academics right in their own backyard,” said Tony Azzarello, UNOH Director of Admissions for the Colleges of: Business, Health Professions, and Occupational Professions.

Quiz bowl gives the participants a chance to meet students from other districts and learn about each other’s strengths academically. Participating in quiz bowl also allows students to develop strong teamwork and leadership skills which will benefit them throughout their life. Quiz Bowl participants study a wide range of topics and subjects as they prepare for the matches. Team members also learn how to represent their schools in a positive light as they win, or lose, graciously.

Schools participating in the 7/8th grade division are: Allen East, Bath, Bluffton, Delphos Jefferson, Delphos St. John’s, Elida, Lima-Liberty Arts Magnet, Lima- South Science Technology Magnet, Perry, Shawnee, Spencerville and Wapakoneta. There are 8-10 students on each team so approximately 80 middle school aged students will be competing. Quiz Bowl matches will take place on the following Mondays, September 30th and October 7th, 21st, and 28th. All matches will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the 13000 Building on the UNOH campus.
