UNOH Students Win Honors at National TMC FutureTech Competition
Four University of Northwestern Ohio Students worked their way to the TMC FutureTech 2024 competition floor on Monday, September 16th. Jack Lorenz (Fitzwilliam, NH), Kody Pond (Kenton, OH), Riley Larr (Luther, MI), and Anthony McCarty (Ubly, MI) battled their way through 20 professional-level stations for a chance to walk across the stage as station winners and overall winners at the Fall 2024 FutureTech Competition in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The student technicians competed from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., testing their skill and accuracy at stations such as wheel end service, cybersecurity, ASE testing, electrical diagnosis, lubricants and fuels, coolants and DEF, alternative fuels, trailer axle alignment, and more.
The following evening, Tuesday, September 17th, the students learned the results of the competition. Jack Lorenz was the station winner for four stations. Those stations were Lubricants and Fuels, Coolants and DEF, Cybersecurity, and Central Tire Inflation. Riley Larr was the station winner of Alternative Fuel System Essentials. After the station winners, the overall winners were recognized for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Jack Lorenz proudly walked the stage for the 3rd place overall position, representing the University of Northwestern Ohio and his sponsor and university partner, Frontier Truck Parts. In addition, the students were awarded various prizes from sponsors including tools, workwear, and gift cards.
Through the experience of being part of the TMC FutureTech competition, the students have been able to sit in on various technician training programs, make industry connections, and experience the trip of a lifetime. Riley Larr and Anthony McCarty were recognized as past TMC Scholarship Recipients during the TMC TEC Scholarship Committee meeting and at the Awards Ceremony. Riley was awarded the TMC Scholarship in 2022 and Anthony was the recipient in 2023.
The students were able to speak with the committee and share how crucial the scholarship was to their education and future in the industry.
