The Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education held an open forum Tuesday evening to seek input from the public regarding changing the name of the school’s mascot.

Hometown Stations reported that in light of the Washington Redskins changing their mascot name, a discussion was initiated about the school possibly changing its mascot name, which is the same.

At the time, superintendent Aaron Rex said the school would not be changing names, which prompted some alumni to start a petition seeking to have a name change.

Tuesday’s meeting, according to the superintendent, was to listen to the public.

He said everyone was allowed to speak and express their views.
