The Ohio State Highway Patrol in conjunction with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington Township Police Department, the Russells Point Police Department, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources conducted a sobriety checkpoint on State Route 235 near State Route 366 in Logan County over the weekend.
There were 233 vehicles checked through the sobriety checkpoint. Two vehicles were diverted for suspicion of impaired driving with one driver being arrested for impaired driving.
In addition to the sobriety checkpoint, officers conducted saturation patrols in the vicinity of the checkpoint. During the saturation patrol, over 30 traffic stops were initiated with two of those traffic stops resulting in arrests for impaired driving.
The checkpoint is funded by federal grant money. Sobriety checkpoints are planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers as well as educate motorists.
