LIMA, OH (August 24, 2022) – The West Ohio Food Bank was officially commissioned back on August 21, 1987, meaning 2022 marks the Food Bank’s 35th year of service to 11 counties in West Central Ohio, inclyding Hardin County.

From humble beginnings in the basement of First United Methodist Church in Lima, then in-side a former grocery store on Kenilworth Avenue, on to a former location on Wayne Street, up to where we are now, our current 35,000 square foot facility on East Kibby Street. The West Ohio Food Bank continues to be the largest food distributor in West Central Ohio.

Tommie Harner, CEO of West Ohio Food Bank, said “I have been here for about half of the Food Bank’s existence, and I couldn’t be prouder of the growth and the partnerships that we have made in our ongoing mission of ending hunger together.”

The general public is invited to a reception marking the 35th anniversary on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, from 2-5pm at the food bank’s lobby and front office area at 1380 E. Kibby St. in Lima.

Tours of the office and warehouse will be given upon request.

A larger community celebration is being planned, and will take place on a date to be determined.
