Janet R. McLaughlin, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, passed away on May 20, 2025, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton, Ohio. Born on March 1, 1945, in Carey, Ohio, Janet carried with her a heart full of warmth and resilience throughout her life.

A proud graduate of Riverdale High School in 1963, Janet embraced the spirit of hard work early on, dedicating her career to being a waitress, while also seamlessly managing the many demands of being a homemaker. She was known for her unwavering stubbornness and a mind of her own, qualities that made her both independent and fiercely loving.

Janet was filled with passion for simple pleasures, particularly enjoying boating, often finding solace and happiness at Indian Lake and Norris Lake. Her favorite days were spent fishing with her grandson-just the two of them, a quiet lake, and plenty of sunshine and laughter. Those moments by the water were embedded into her life, allowing her to connect with nature and create cherished memories with her family.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 58 years, Danny McLaughlin of Forest, whose life she enriched with companionship. Janet was also a proud mother to her son, Ernie (Kerri) McLaughlin of Kenton, who carried her spirit in his own journey through life. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Aron (Katie Slusher) McLaughlin of Indiana and Alyssa McLaughlin of Kenton, who brought her endless joy and laughter. Janet is remembered fondly by her sister-in-law, Phyllis Walter of Upper Sandusky, and her brother-in-law, Charles Clark of McCutchenville.

Janet was preceded in death by her son Randall McLaughlin, father, Jacob Walter, her mother, Edna (Boyce) Walter, and her siblings, Lynn Walter, Geraldine Etzinger, Sally Clark, and Frederick Walter. Their memories live on in the stories shared by those who love her, painting a picture of a woman who was deeply rooted in family.

We celebrate a woman who was full of spirit and love, a guiding star for her family on Friday May 23, 2025 from 11am-1pm at Clark Shields Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Hueston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of Clark Shields Funeral Home 301 S. Patterson St. Forest, OH 45843. Visit www.shieldsfh.com to view the life tribute DVD, send a condolence or light a candle.
